In contrast to Portland cements which contain calcium silicates, CIMENT FONDU® is a calcium aluminate-based hydraulic binder.
CIMENT FONDU® has the most applications among all Kerneos calcium aluminates. It is used in a large range of applications, either as a reagent in various product formulas, or as a hydraulic binder base for refractory and specialized concrete. It is also an accelerator for Portland concrete products.
When it is used by itself or as a hydraulic binder base in specialized concrete, CIMENT FONDU® can achieve a range of targeted special properties: quick hardening, excellent resistance to heat, thermal cycles and abrasion. Whenever CIMENT FONDU® is used in combination with specialized aggregates such as ALAG® synthetic aggregates, for example, it is possible to achieve even higher performance levels.
In contrast to Portland cement, CIMENT FONDU® does not release any lime during hydration. Along with its low porosity, this characteristic offers good resistance to chemicals and acid corrosion as well as to a high number of aggressive substances. The flow characteristics of CIMENT FONDU® are suited for all types of application processes, in particular pouring and spraying. These are some common Civil Engineering applications: Industrial slab laying, unloading and transfer docks/bays, the overflow weir of dams, spillways, piers etc.
When used in refractory applications, CIMENT FONDU® is mainly used in concrete insulation. Depending on the types of aggregates employed, it may be used in temperatures as high as 1250°C.
In formulated products used in building chemistry, CIMENT FONDU® is used as a reagent or as the main binder for a very wide range of products: rapid-setting mortar, tile adhesive, self-leveling products, etc.
CIMENT FONDU® is also used in masonry, on worksites and as an accelerator for Portland cement: rapid-sealing work and minor repairs. The CIMENT FONDU® / Portland cement mixture must not be used for structural purposes.
Beyond the minimum requirements established by standard EN 14647, the French production plant enjoys additional controls and norms such as those established in the reference standard NF 002, for which it is awarded the NF-Hydraulic binder label on its products.
CIMENT FONDU® is manufactured in a quality management system environment, certified according to ISO 9001 standards.
