Kerneos has launched OPTIMET™, a new synthetic slag containing calcium aluminates.
Designed for the metallurgical fluxes (or fluxing agents) market, this new solution with a high magnesia content allows the lifespan of steel ladles to be optimised by reducing the corrosion of refractory materials used in their production.
OPTIMET™ also improves the performance of slag, which traps any impurities on the surface of cast steel.
The name and logo for this new flux were not chosen at random: the OPTIMET™ solution optimises the composition of slag, both in terms of metallurgical efficiency and the protection of refractories; this "refractory protection" aspect is symbolised by the i adopting the shape of the inside of a ladle, emphasized by a red line, highlighting the position of refractories.
